Product Description

Make a craft enthusiast happy with this exclusive gift set from Cohana, consisting of a Masu pincushion, a Meboso needle set, a wooden thread spool and Kokura textile cloth b>.

The Masu pincushion comes with 3 handcrafted Shippo glass-head sewing pins. Wooden Masu boxes were originally used to measure rice. The box measures approximately 46mm length x 46mm width x 29mm height. The cushion is made of kokura textile cloth with a polyester filling. The heads of the three pins are decorated with Shippo – a type of cloisonne ware, where flakes of precious metal or gemstones are incorporated into the glass head. The pins are made from nickel-plated steel and are 35mm long and 0.5mm thick, while the glass head has a diameter of 4mm.

The set of Meboso sewing needles is packed in a cardboard storage tube with a decorative tassel. The needles are made by Meboso Hachirobei Shoten, a company that has been producing high quality needles for over 430 years in a region known for its textile industry. In the past, seamstresses created hand-sewn bags or pendant-style containers to keep the needles safe and sharp. Elaborating on that tradition, Cohana had a cardboard storage tube made. The needles are made from hardened steel and the tip is polished lengthwise. This results in a smooth and particularly sharp needle that glides effortlessly through the fabric. These needles are suitable for light- to medium-weight fabrics, such as silk or cotton. The case contains 8 needles: 2 x approx. 33.3mm long and 0.56mm thick, 2 x approx. 36.4mm long and 0.56mm thick, 2 x approx. 39.4mm long and 0.56mm thick and 2 x approx. 36.4mm long x 0.71mm thick.

The thread spool is carved from wood and wrapped with white polyester yarn.

The whole set is packed in a kokura-ori textile cloth. The cotton fabric of the pincushion is known for its three-dimensional stripes created by using many warp threads. This contemporary version with coloured stripes is used to wrap the set and can later be used, for example, as a handkerchief.

Available in black and white. Supplied per set in a gift box measuring 100mm length x 100mm width x 145mm height.
