Scheepjes Summer Sock-A-Long

Unwind this August with Scheepjes and the Summer Sock-A-Long! Whether knitters are enjoying downtime on vacation or a relaxing staycation in the backyard, this portable project created by Carmen of New Leaf Designs is perfect for creating comfy socks anywhere. 

The Long & Short of It

The Knitty Gritty

Over four weeks, participants will knit the Classic New Leaf Socks using sister yarns Scheepjes Metropolis and self-striping Downtown. These premium fingering weight yarns are composed of 75% Extra Fine Merino Wool and 25% Nylon - the ultimate blend for crafting machine-washable socks that are at once soft, light, durable and breathable! 

Adventurous beginners will be gently guided through making their first pair of socks. Carmen will provide step-by-step video tutorials and tips in both English and Dutch via her blog and also within the Official Scheepjes Facebook Groups, where participants can also take advantage of the expertise and encouragement of Scheepjes' skilled admins and mods. Of course the Summer Sock-A-Long is for any knitter excited to refine their skills and learn useful techniques such as Judy’s magic cast on, German short rows and Lori’s twisty bind off. Depending on skill level, participants have the option to knit this timeless toe-up design one-at-a-time or as a pair, using 2.25mm circular needles and the magic loop method.

 

 

Pattern

Carmen is generously providing the sock pattern free on her blog. Both English and Dutch language versions will be available for six EU sizes from 35 through to 47. Participants also have the option to support the designer by purchasing a handy printable PDF version via Ravelry for €6.99. (Please note that prices may be subject to some variation based on local currency, time of purchase and taxes.) 

 

 

Yarn

• Scheepjes Metropolis: 1 ball of chosen colour for all sizes 
• Scheepjes Downtown: 1 (1:2:2:2:2) ball(s) of chosen colour for respective EU sizes 35/36 (37/38: 39/41: 42/43: 44/45: 46/47) 
• 2.25mm circular needles: 80cm (for knitting 1 sock at a time) or 100cm (for 2 at once) 
• Stitch Markers
